Animation Portfolios

I’ve dedicated the past few years to developing a diverse collection of animation characters, both for personal projects and as a hobby. Each character has been meticulously crafted with unique backstories, motivations, and distinct visual styles.

Ensnared Affections

This project follows Luo Zhen, a girl from the Miao ethnic minority in China, who carries a creepy toy symbolizing her desire for family. Obsessed with Xie Yu, she uses witchcraft to manipulate him, often neglecting his feelings. Inspired by contemporary issues surrounding unhealthy relationships, this narrative explores love, control, and the struggle for emotional autonomy. Ultimately, Luo Zhen’s journey emphasises the importance of expressing thoughts and resisting oppressive dynamics.

Partial Family

This portfolio examines the outdated belief in valuing sons over daughters, set in remote Xi Ling Village. A poor family’s tragedy unfolds when the bodies of their daughters are discovered, yet the mother remains unfazed, happily caring for her son. The villagers are met with her cheerful laughter, as if the girls never existed. This narrative critiques the stereotype of male superiority and highlights how women in such environments can become complicit in a patriarchal society

More About My Animation Folios

  • Explore societal norms around gender roles, particularly in rural settings, to inform your narrative. Draw on emotional depth by contrasting the mother’s indifference with the tragedy of her daughters. Use traditional art forms and personal experiences for authenticity.

  • Begin with research and outline my storyboard. Design characters to reflect their emotional states, then choose an animation style (2D, 3D, etc.). Incorporate colour palette to enhance mood. Gather feedback and revise my work. Finally, compile my animations into a cohesive portfolio with introductions explaining the themes and inspirations behind each piece.

  • In my animation portfolio, I explore the painful realities of gender inequality, particularly the outdated belief that values sons over daughters. Through the story of a mother indifferent to her daughters' tragic fate, I aim to highlight the emotional disconnection fostered by patriarchal norms. This project draws on cultural research and personal reflections, allowing me to examine how these biases shape individual behaviors and community attitudes. My goal is to provoke thought and inspire conversations about gender equality, using visual storytelling to evoke empathy and challenge societal expectations.

  • My goal is to engage and inspire audiences through animation, using my skills to explore themes and provoke thought. I aim to refine my techniques, collaborate effectively with creative teams, and continually push the boundaries of my craft. Ultimately, I aspire to produce high-quality work that not only entertains but also raises awareness about important social issues, fostering deeper connections and conversations through the power of animation.
